Description
Steel wire has many uses, but our customers normally use it for binding wire, barbed wire and diamond mesh fencing around the house, business and farm.A wire is a single, usually cylindrical, flexible strand or rod of metal. Wires are used to bear mechanical loads or electricity and telecommunications signals. Wire is commonly formed by drawing the metal through a hole in a die or draw plate. Wire gauges come in various standard sizes, as expressed in terms of a gauge number. The term wire is also used more loosely to refer to a bundle of such strands, as in "multistranded wire", which is more correctly termed a wire rope in mechanics, or a cable in electricity.
For most uses, low carbon steel is used for wire manufacturing, and in various steps of drawing and heat treatment, the wire is reduced to the required diameter from the original steel rod. The finished product is also galvanised by dipping in molten Zinc for protection against corrosion, and can be sold in coils of just wire, or go through to secondary processes where the wire is turned into wire products like barbed wire and steel mesh for fencing
